Summer: Oily Skin
In this issue, we continue with treating oily skin. Oily skin is worsened by hormone level fluctuations, emotional upset and stress. Alcohol-based products and harsh soaps will dry out the skin and in turn, activate the oil glands to produce more sebum. In fact, the more you strip your skin of natural sebum (oil), the more it will produce to compensate.
Take heed of products that contain mineral oil and other ingredients which are derivatives of petroleum, which can block pores and can lead to acne.
Balancing the skin is the key to healthy, radiant skin. This involves proper cleansing, moisturizing and perhaps a change in diet. It also requires patience to find the right products that work for you.
Look for a light hydrating moisturizer. Properties with a soothing and calming effect on overactive sebacious glands. Ideally, one that uses plant oils, which have much smaller molecules and they penetrate into the upper layers of the skin.
This offers a longer-term nourishing effect rather than simply sealing the moisture. It is also rapidly absorbed and provides good protection against the drying effect of extreme climatic conditions.
