When used as a spice, we refer to the seeds of the plant as Coriander and added to dishes as an aromatic spice, which can also act as a digestive agent accelerating the digestion process. While Cilantro is the actual plant, which comes from the Spanish word for coriander. If a recipe calls for fresh coriander that would be cilantro.
Research on Coriander
Recent research results strongly suggest that coriander oil and linalool, its anti-inflammatory property, could be considered as new anti-biofilm agents, QS inhibitors and antioxidants to enhance the shelf life of food products and increase food safety without the use of chemical additives or preservatives. When this or could happen, we will have to keep a lookout.
Research has also shown that coriander is excellent to help lower blood sugar levels and aids in digestion, in particular, to help prevent flatulence.
